On measured robot density โ the standard gauge of manufacturing automation โ South Korea leads with 1220 robots per 10,000 manufacturing workers against France's 195 (2024 data). Direction of travel matters as much as the gap. France moved from 186 (2023) to 195 (2024), a +4.8% change, while South Korea went from 1012 to 1220, a +20.6% change. South Korea is adding automation capacity at the faster rate of the two. Rising density usually reflects new robot installations outpacing manufacturing employment, rather than a shrinking workforce.
